Not your Average Jo’s

Indian establishments have always been a necessity to our family. Especially on the cold piteous nights knee-deep in the semester when we can’t be bothered to boil water or otherwise. Indian food provides a certain warmth, alongside taste and fullness, that provides comfort yet manages to be a little less indulgent than a pizza or cheeseburger, albeit more expensive (sometimes). For my money a good biriyani wins me over anytime, and while the Arlington based establishment Punjab provides the best biriyani in the area, Jo’s Indian Kitchen, located smack dab in the middle of Porter Square near the Commuter Rail exit, surprised me with its own biriyani. The crispy onions served atop were a bit dry but they added an appreciated crisp to accompany the other textures present in the dish, including the succulent lamb chunks included throughout. Since we last visited, Jo’s has been working towards making the restaurant seem a bit more appealing to diners by including lighting makes for a more appealing ambiance, but this is a business that I hope lasts the neighborhood a while.
