Thanks to the bitter cold present in the American northeast for the past few months, our family found an opportunity to take a sojourn in one of the lesser U.S Virgin Islands, aptly named Water Island. The population and activity was quiet for most of the day save for the activity brewing on the picturesque beaches when the tourists from St. Thomas and St. Croix came barging in on catamarans blasting the stereotypical pop and reggae. Our lodgings were in the Four Elements; an establishment reminiscent of a commune owned by a German-American couple whose children had all been born at sea. For five days we were “glamping”, a type of camping where slightly more luxurious amenities than usual are offered. In our case, running water, a roof over our heads, internet, and mosquito netting were provided, but other than that, we were forced to brave the elements on our own. But this is a food blog, so how about the food? The facilities of Four Elements allowed us to partake in our own cooking whenever we were tired of beachside bar food, and eating outdoors gave us many an opportunity to enjoy good food while enjoying the scenic vistas of the neighboring islands pictured above.

What a beautiful picture!
